Dr. Emad Al-Maaroof, Professor of plant pathology and cereals diseases at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Sulaimani, IKR, Iraq. He is engaged in wheat and legumes research programs that focus on disease resistance and management, epidemiology, Physiological specialization, virulence analysis and molecular characterization of the pathogens. He recently worked as a consultant at ICARDA as Coordinator of the Harmonized Support for Agricultural Development in Iraq (HSAD) project, as well as the Head of the ICARDA Office in Erbil, IKR, to develop Iraq’s agriculture sector. He was previously the Head of Plant Pathology Department at Iraq’s Ministry of Science and Technology. He has developed over thirty new wheat, barley and rice cultivars that are resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses. He has received five international scientific awards and Eight local awards in the field of food security and agricultural innovation from various international organizations, scientific centers, and universities. He has over 100 scientific Journals publications and attended over 190 International and local conferences. He has served on the executive committee of the Arab society for plant protection (ASPP) and the Asian phytopathology societies, and the editorial boards of five international scientific journals and as reviewer for over than 40 local, regional and International Scientific journals. He supervised more than 13 doctoral and master’s degree students, as well as he contributed in graduation of a large number of under graduate students.
